Is CBD Oil Legal In Vanuatu?

by in International Law October 3, 2019

The Republic of Vanuatu is a Pacific island country located east of northern Australia and New Guinea. Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the Spanish and the French fought for colonial control over the island until the French finally established full rule in the late 1800s. After Vanuatu claimed independence in the 1970’s, the archipelago country has suffered from persistent issues with domestic drug abuse, drug trafficking, and drug related violence.

Despite the country’s issues, Vanuatu has a relatively softer stance towards drugs than other island nations, in part due to its comparatively easier access to economic resources than other South Pacific islands.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In Vanuatu?

Currently, cannabis and hemp are both considered illicit for recreational use; however, they are both legal for medical and industrial purposes. Generally speaking, enforcement of cannabis law is very lax on Vanuatu, despite attempts to ramp up arrests starting in 2017. According to law enforcers, locals were just not able to adapt to restricted legal access to marijuana since the substance is tied closely to the economic and social structure of some communities in the island.

As of September 2018, news reports on the island claimed that Vanuatu’s government would allow for the cultivation and sale of low THC compounds, very similar to hemp, to be tested for use in diabetes medication. This later opened up the pathway to a robust, consistent medical and scientific hemp and cannabis industry just a year later on the entire island.

Although enforcement is lax, it is not recommended to bring any compound with any trace of THC onto the island, since locals and travelers are never sure when they will receive legal repercussions. Medical patients should carry a doctor’s certification to make sure they don’t run into any trouble with local law enforcement.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

In the past two years alone, over 64 million Americans have tried CBD derived from hemp at least once. In some studies, over 80 percent of those who’ve tried CBD reported a moderate to substantial decrease in the severity of their chronic conditions. With these statistics, it’s no wonder that CBD has been making waves throughout the global health and wellness market over the years. Researchers believe that sustained CBD use could positively impact a range of mental, physical, and emotional health conditions for users, such as:

  • Restless Leg Syndrome and muscle spasms
  • Chronic pain conditions like arthritis, sciatica, nerve pain and localized joint pain
  • Vasoconstriction, high blood pressure, and high heart, all of which are the primary precursors to heart disease acquired later on in life
  • Depression, anxiety, social issues, and PTSD
  • Stress oxidation
  • Skin conditions worsened by inflammation, such as eczema, psoriasis, facial redness and premature signs of aging
  • Glaucoma
  • Insomnia, poor appetite, and rapid changes to body weight
