Is CBD Oil Legal In Uzbekistan?

by in International Law October 3, 2019

The Republic of Uzbekistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the north and Afghanistan to the south. Gradually, the Uzbek economy has shifted to a market economy, stepping away from the influence of the former Soviet Union economics. As capital has started to flow into the country, the issues of transnational drug crime, domestic drug abuse, and drug related violence have skyrocketed in the region.

While officially a democratic country, Uzbekistan has been dubbed an authoritarian state with limited civil rights as recently as 2008, according to several non governmental institutions.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In Uzbekistan?

Samarkand in Uzbekistan is known for its historic connections to cannabis trade along the silk road in 200 BCE. Now, the country still boasts a healthy cannabis and hemp culture in many local communities. In fact, many rural areas still grow hemp and cannabis wildly along the riverbanks and high elevation regions.

As drug crime rose at the fall of Soviet Union, the government has attempted to clamp down on the legal status of cannabis and its derivatives. Currently, cannabis and hemp are both considered very illegal for recreational and medical use, with little possibility that the policy will change soon.

The government is now undertaking systematic destruction of wild cannabis and hemp plants all over the country, although these efforts are small and underfunded. Even though the punishments are technically getting harsher, enforcement is still lax in many – if not most – parts of the country. Rural villages are much less likely to be punished than metropolitan areas, as hemp cultivation is deeply connected to some families’ way of life.

Still, consumers should be wary about bringing CBD with any concentration of THC into Uzbekistan. It’s unclear whether or not law enforcement will be able to distinguish between cannabis and health treatments like CBD, even if the carrier has a doctor’s prescription note.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is one of the many active compounds found in strains of hemp seeds and flowers. Unlike THC, CBD is both non-addictive and non-psychoactive, yet allegedly carries many of the same therapeutic benefits found in cannabis. According to researchers, a regular CBD regimen could positively benefit users’ mental, physical, and emotional health and wellness. Many users state that CBD helps conditions as diverse as:

  • Depression, anxiety, social issues, and PTSD
  • Poor appetite and rapid changes to body weight
  • Skin conditions, like eczema, psoriasis, facial redness and the premature signs of aging
  • Chronic pain conditions caused by worsening inflammation, such as arthritis, nerve pain, sciatica and localized joint pain
  • Restless Leg Syndrome and muscle spasms
  • High blood pressure and heart rate, as well as vasoconstriction
  • Inability to fall or stay asleep over the course of the night
  • Glaucoma
