CBD Oil In The Marshall Islands

Sitting just shy of the equator in the Pacific Ocean, the Marshall Islands constitute an island country associated with the United States. The US provides subsidies, defense, and access to governmental institutions such as the United States Postal Service. With an exceedingly small service economy, most of the economy is comprised of fishing and agriculture.

As hemp has made legal rounds throughout the United States, many have wondered whether or not CBD treatments’ legal status will change on the islands. Traditionally, the Marshall Islands drug policy has closely mirrored the United States policy on the issue.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In The Marshall Islands?

Currently, the possession, sale, cultivation and distribution of cannabis and its derivatives – which may include hemp – is regulated under the Narcotic Drugs Act of 1987. Under the act, it’s illegal to possess cannabis; however, medical patients may use cannabis if it’s obtained through a medical practitioner. Despite this law, there is no medical cannabis available on the island for sale.

First offenses for drug violations could net fines as large as one to five thousand dollars and up to a year in prison. Larger offenses could result in as many as fifteen years imprisonment. A decade ago, marijuana and tobacco use were ubiquitous on the island among youth. In polls, over twenty percent of those under eighteen said they had easy access to cannabis.

Now, non governmental agencies have stepped in to combat usage rates and lobby for tightened drug restriction on the island. As drug use has dropped, policies and enforcement have risen over the past decade, which squarely situates hemp in a legal gray area.

CBD Legal Status On The Marshall Islands

Although CBD extracted from hemp doesn’t contain psychoactive ingredients and is non-addictive, there is currently no legal distinction between hemp, marijuana or THC compounds on the islands. Experts are hopeful that the policy will clarify as the United States’ legal CBD market reaches several billion in revenue over the next two years.

It’s recommended that consumers remain wary about consuming CBD openly on the islands or carrying it in their luggage. However, law enforcers do respect international medical prescriptions, meaning that medical patients can feel safe carrying CBD with a doctor’s note.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is one of the over one hundred active compounds found in strains of hemp. Researchers believe that CBD oil could provide a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional health benefits for users. According to many users, CBD could help with conditions that include:

  • Muscle Spasms and Restless Leg Syndrome
  • Chronic pain caused by inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis, joint pain, sciatica, and general nerve pain
  • Depression, anxiety, and PTSD
  • Poor appetite
  • Insomnia
  • Severe nausea and cachexia
  • Vasoconstriction, one of the precursors of heart disease
  • Glaucoma
