CBD Oil in Micronesia

The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is an independent republic closely associated with the United States. The FSM consists of four states, including Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae, spread across the Western Pacific Ocean. Just north of the equator, the FSM spreads across 607 islands with over 2,700 km distance.

Although the total land area of the FSM is relatively small, the scattered nature of the republic makes concerns over drug trafficking, smuggling, and persistent drug abuse an almost unmanageable issue.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In The Federated States Of Micronesia?

Marijuana was introduced to the FSM in the sixties and seventies by Peace Corps volunteers and, since then, has grown increasingly popular on the islands. A study of over 1000 college students on the islands found that over 34 percent tried cannabis derivatives at least once, which rivals the drug consumption rates in most other countries around the world.

Geographically, it’s difficult for law enforcement personnel to consistently police all of the land of the FSM to stop cultivation and distribution efforts. Although punishments for drug possession and production are severe, many distributors act without fear of being caught. The FSM provides the benefits of an abundant market with relatively little risk for both users and smugglers. After alcohol, marijuana is the most popular drug in the FSM.

Currently, there is no legal distinction between hemp, which is both non psychoactive and non addictive, and illicit compounds like marijuana. THC is illegal for both recreational and medical use on the island. The FSM is increasingly reliant on American institutions and non governmental agencies to help combat local drug usage.

It is not recommended that travelers to the FSM import CBD into any of the islands because, even though enforcement is lackluster, those who are caught can and often do face criminal charges. It’s not uncommon for tourists to receive jail time for importing minimal amounts of cannabis. If cannabidiol absolutely must be carried due to medical reasons, it is recommended that you stick to CBD isolate, which contains zero percentage THC and visitors should make sure to carry a medical certification and prescription from their doctor for verification of their need.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is one of the over one hundred active compounds found in hemp. Unlike THC, CBD doesn’t produce a euphoriant effect; rather, the treatment may sustainably support users’ mental, physical, and emotional wellness regiments. According to users, CBD could help with a wide array of conditions that include symptoms such as:

  • Restless Leg Syndrome and muscle spasms
  • Depression, anxiety, and PTSD
  • Insomnia
  • Chronic pain conditions worsened by persistent inflammation, such as arthritis, nerve pain, and sciatica
  • Poor appetite and fluctuating body weight
  • Vasoconstriction, one of the primary precursors of heart disease
  • Nausea and cachexia, which refers to the wasting away of the body due to prolonged illness
