Is CBD Oil Legal In The Bahamas?
The laws surrounding industrial hemp, CBD, and cannabis can differ depending on which state or country they are in. Understanding the difference between each product and the laws in each location is a must for those who use CBD products.
What Is CBD?
Let’s look at some facts:
- CBD is an acronym that is short for cannabidiol.
- Cannabidiol is a compound found within the cannabis plant.
- Unlike THC, also known as tetrahydrocannabinol, CBD does not create a euphoric intoxication.
- CBD will not make someone test positive on a drug test.
Instead, research indicates that CBD may have the ability to treat a variety of conditions associated with chronic pain.
Studies have shown that CBD can aid with these conditions:
- Muscular Sclerosis
- Muscle Spasms
- Inflammatory Issues
- Chronic Pain
- Skin Conditions and Rashes
CBD comes from a particular type of cannabis. This strain is known as Cannabis Sativa L or industrial hemp. Industrial hemp contains Non-Detectable THC.
Are CBD Products Legal In The Bahamas?
Recently, new government announcements regarding the reformation of cannabis laws in the Bahamas have sparked further interest in the cultivation of industrial hemp. The Bahamian Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, Michael Pintard has stated that he has received a large number of proposals regarding industrial hemp cultivation.
During July of 2018, the Bahamian government stated that it was considering decriminalizing personal use of cannabis. The government also stated that it had an interest in the medical use of cannabis as well. The plans submitted by the CARICOM (Regional Commission on Marijuana) also encouraged developing the industrial hemp industry within the region.
During August of 2018, Michael Pintard stated that the government was currently receiving submissions for the cultivation and production of industrial hemp. However, at the time, the government is not in a position to approve any requests. According to Michael Pintard, the government is still receiving proposals, and he considers three of these proposals to be serious.
While the Bahamian government still argues over cannabis laws, it has clarified that CBD products are legal in the Bahamas.
Dr. Duane Sands, who is the Minister of Health in the Bahamas stated that if an import license was secured then CBD products could be sold.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that cannabis laws are still debated in the Bahamas. However, as long as an import license is obtained by a business, then CBD products can be sold.
This is great news for those who use CBD products as an alternative treatment option to whatever condition they suffer from.
Because these laws are ever-changing and differ widely depending on location, those who are interested in CBD must understand and remain up to date on the current laws surrounding these products.
