Is CBD Oil Legal In Syria?

by in International Law October 3, 2019

Syria is a country in Western Asia bordered by Lebanon to the southwest and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. Nestled between both conservative Islamic countries and westernizing nations like Turkey, Syria struggles with persistent domestic drug abuse markets and smuggling routes headed up towards Western Europe.

Like other Middle-East nations, Syria boasts some of the most restrictive drug policies and punishment systems in the world.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In Syria?

Under Syrian law, cannabis and any of its derivatives – including hemp – is completely illegal for both recreational and medical use. Under the policies of the Bashar al-Assad, hemp offenses, whether they constitute possession or trafficking, could carry life imprisonment sentences and hefty fines.

The cultivation of hemp was formally banned after World War II, though the authorities were often unable to prevent certain ethnic groups and regions from continuing to cultivate hashish. Punishments continued to ramp up and became more consistently enforced throughout the nineties.

However, persistent civil war in many parts of Syria has caused Kurdish separatist groups to begin growing cannabis in order to escape poverty and starvation. Plagued by corruption and lack of personnel, Syrian law enforcement is unable to combat the growing illegal cultivation and spread of drugs throughout the country.

Consumers should not carry CBD treatments derived from hemp into Syria, as they could face extreme punishments and unpredictable sentences. Medical reasons for carrying CBD are not recognized by the state.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

As hemp has slowly legalized in both the United States, Canada, and much of Western Europe, the rest of the world is pressured to shift their policies just to catch up. Time will tell if nations like Syria will come around the potential health and economic benefits of decriminalizing hemp use and production. According to many users, CBD can have tremendous impacts on consumers’ mental, physical, and emotional well being. CBD may help with conditions as diverse as:

  • Depression, anxiety, PTSD, and social issues
  • Poor appetite and fluctuating body weight
  • Insomnia
  • High blood pressure and vasoconstriction, some of the primary symptoms and causes of heart disease
  • Chronic pain caused by inflammation, such as arthritis, sciatica, nerve and joint pain
  • Skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, redness and the signs of aging
  • Glaucoma
  • Restless Leg Syndrome and muscle spasms
