Is CBD Oil Legal In Sweden?

by in International Law October 3, 2019

For the past two years, Swedish officials have wrestled with the notion of hemp legalization. Like many other countries in the European Union, international regulation affected Sweden by causing a decrease in penalties on sellers and vendors for the sale, distribution, or consumption of CBD.

After the Farm Bill Act of 2014 and 2018 legalized hemp production in the US, Western Europe has been forced to craft sensible trade policy and domestic law concerning hemp and CBD. As of July 2019, Sweden’s highest court ruled that CBD oil with any concentration of THC, a psychoactive compound, should be classified as illicit.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In Sweden?

In the wake of the court’s decision, many entrepreneurs and users were upset. Most CBD on the market is comprised of 0.1 to 0.2 percent THC concentration, which is such a trace amount that it would be functionally impossible to “get high” off of any amount. Sweden may be prematurely cutting itself off of the rapidly expanding global CBD market or, even more concerning, could attempt to shift EU policy out of favor with CBD.

It will take a long time for the court’s ruling to become a legible tool for law enforcers. For the moment, consumers and vendors can feel safe consuming or selling CBD products extracted from hemp. Overall, the country’s law enforcers have been very friendly towards the growing market. Additionally, Swedish officials are more concerned with public health than they are with penalizing drug abusers.

The most legal hemp products are considered CBD Isolate, which contain about zero THC and only one type of industrially certified cannabinoid. Consumers should make sure to purchase properly labelled products from reputable vendors.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

Also known as cannabidiol, CBD has swept through much of the Western World over the past decade in a wave of legalization attempts. Now more than ever, researchers are scrambling to uncover the mental, physical, and emotional benefits that CBD might have for users. CBD works by interacting with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in nearly every aspect of health and wellness. According to many users, CBD could be helpful for conditions as wide ranging as:

  • Skin problems caused by autoimmune inflammation, including eczema, psoriasis, and premature signs of aging
  • Depression, anxiety, sociability issues, and PTSD
  • Epilepsy and other seizure disorders
  • Glaucoma
  • Restless Leg Syndrome and muscle spasms
  • Chronic pain caused by worsening inflammation, such as sciatica, arthritis, localized joint pain and nerve pain conditions
  • Severe nausea and cachexia
  • Cognitive problems and poor memory
