Is CBD Oil Legal In Philippines?
One of the most perplexing questions concerning the use of CBD oil is understanding where it’s legal to use. There are many places around the world where it’s still considered an illegal substance. While many countries have widely legalized the use of CBD products, there are still some locations that choose to make it illegal to buy or use it. Still others have laws that are confusing, making it difficult for many people to develop a solid understanding of the laws surrounding CBD oil.
Covering The Basics
Before delving deep into the legality of using CBD oil in the Philippines, it’s important to briefly cover some background information about CBD oil. For starters, CBD is short for cannabidiol, an element that is derived from the hemp plant. Because this plant is in the cannabis family, there can sometimes be a great deal of confusion concerning its legality. It’s imperative to understand that marijuana and hemp are not the same thing.
Both plants are a type of cannabis, but marijuana contains THC, the substance responsible for getting you high. On the other hand, legal CBD contains either undetectable amounts or zero THC. This effectively allows you to reap many of the same benefits you might experience from smoking or ingesting marijuana without the high.
Unfortunately, there are still some countries that don’t differentiate between the two. Therefore, CBD is often illegal in those areas even though it doesn’t contain THC.
A Natural Way To Get Healthy
One of the reasons that CBD is so popular is because it allegedly has the potential to help diminish or alleviate certain medical conditions. While it may not work well for everyone, many people have made claim that it is helpful in combating migraine headaches, chronic pain, insomnia, persistent nausea and vomiting, anxiety, depression and high blood pressure.
Many people claim to have had better success with CBD than with more traditional prescription medications. They also say that they tend to suffer far fewer side effects.
The Legality Of CBD Oil In The Philippines
Is CBD oil legal in the Philippines? Right now, that seems to be the million dollar question. According to the federal government there, all forms of marijuana and anything else that comes from cannabis is illegal.
In fact, it’s even illegal to use hemp oil for cooking there. That being said, there have been some efforts to change the law as of late. For the time being, those efforts have been largely unsuccessful but there does seem to be a distinct shift in the way some individuals are thinking when it comes to using CBD oil in the country.
In 2017, House Bill 6517 was introduced to the Philippine House of Representatives that would legalize and regulate medical marijuana. It has been making slow progress since then. It was finally approved by the House on its second reading, but was ultimately defeated in the Senate when President Rodrigo Duterte withdrew his support for the bill.
For now, CBD is still considered illegal in the Philippines. There doesn’t seem to be a desire to prosecute those who do use it, but finding it there is almost impossible. The small amount that is available isn’t regulated, making it virtually impossible to know what you are actually getting.
For these reasons, CBD oil is not widely used in the country at the current time. As opinions shift on the matter, that will likely change. However, it could still take a number of years before CBD is both legal and widely available there.
