CBD Oil In Papua New Guinea

The Independent State of Papua New Guinea, also known as Papua New Guinea, is a country bordered by the eastern half of New Guinea in the Oceania region. After reclaiming its independence from Australian administration in 1975, drug trafficking, abuse, and drug related violence related to hemp and cannabis production has become a persistent problem.

Although cannabis is illegal in the country, the nation is a significant producer of both hemp and high THC compounds. Hemp was introduced in the sixties by American expats and is widely used, consumed, and sold on the island nation.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In Papua New Guinea?

Papua New Guinea has regulations against both hemp, which is the main component of CBD treatments, and cannabis. Possession and trafficking can result in hefty sentences of over twenty year jail time and large fines.

Although penalties on the books are severe, enforcement is lax because the country is geographically difficult to patrol. A persistent lack of law enforcement personnel, resources, and funding have made the problems of drug trade all the more persistent.

Experts have recommended that the country soften its stance on drug possession, due in part to the issue of enforcement. By legalizing hemp, users would be more willing to interact with government health institutions and wouldn’t get involved with violent dealers who are closely tied to the illegal weapons industries.

Over the past four decades, Papua New Guinea has stepped up on the global stage as an increasingly major port for transnational drug crime. Officials are hard pressed to re-evaluate their stance on drug crime as international policy slowly ekes hemp and CBD into the legal limelight.

For now, consumers should not import CBD – including treatments that have zero THC content – into the country since the act could be considered trafficking. Medical patients should contact their nearest embassy or consulate to inquire about the legality of their CBD prescription before entering the country.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is one of the over one hundred active compounds found in strains of hemp. Extracted from the hemp stem and flowers, CBD has allegedly been linked to positive impacts on users’ mental, physical, and emotional well being. By reducing inflammation, CBD oil may address the root causes of conditions ranging from depression to chronic pain. According to many users, CBD could help with conditions that include:

  • Glaucoma
  • Chronic pain caused by persistent inflammation, such as arthritis, sciatica, nerve pain and generalized joint pain
  • Restless Leg Syndrome and muscle spasms
  • The secondary symptoms of some types of cancer
  • Vasoconstriction, one of the primary precursors to heart disease
  • Anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms
  • Severe nausea and cachexia, which refers to the gradual wasting away of the body due to prolonged illness
