Is CBD Oil Legal In Oman?

by in International Law October 1, 2019

Oman, officially The Sultanate of Oman, is an Arab country on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. As an conservative country, Oman has exceedingly harsh laws to protect against the threats of domestic drug abuse, drug related violence, and substance smuggling done by transnational crime institutions.

Seated at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, Oman occupies a strategically important region for international drug crime organizations looking to breach the rest of the Middle-East.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In Oman?

Government officials are persistently worried about the growing problem of drug abuse among the country’s young population. In 2015, new amendments accepted by Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed introduced even harsher penalties – including the death penalty or life imprisonment sentences – for drug users and smugglers.

Under public pressure, the government has slightly scaled back punishment for drug addicts. Slowly, possession of substances like cannabis and its derivatives – including hemp – are being treated as more of a public health concern than a criminal offense.

Even though the government has made no specific statement on the legality of CBD derived from hemp, consumers and vendors can assume that is functionally illegal. It is not likely that Oman’s stance towards hemp or cannabis will change anytime soon, as the country receives legal support from neighboring countries which also have harsh drug policies.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

Researchers claim to have linked CBD, one of the many active compounds found in hemp, to mental, physical, and emotional health benefits for users. Over 64 million Americans have tried CBD at least once over the past decade, more than any other health and wellness supplement introduced to the market. As Western policies soften their stances, it’s possible that countries like Oman could see the economic and societal benefits of non-addictive and non-psychoactive CBD treatments. According to users, CBD could help health conditions that include:

  • Chronic pain worsened by autoimmune inflammation, such as arthritis, nerve pain, and joint pain
  • Depression, anxiety, social issues, and PTSD
  • Skin conditions caused by inflammation, such as eczema, psoriasis, and the signs of premature aging
  • Restless Leg Syndrome and muscle spasms
  • Epilepsy and other neurological or seizure disorders, especially in the treatment of children (according to the FDA)
  • Conditions that worsen heart health, such as vasoconstriction and high blood pressure
  • Stress oxidation
  • Glaucoma
