Is CBD Oil Legal In Nicaragua?

by in International Law October 1, 2019

The Republic of Nicaragua is the largest country in the Central American isthmus, bordered by Honduras to the northwest and Costa Rica to the south. Although personal drug consumption rates are exceedingly low in the country, crimes of drug trafficking and drug related violence have been on the rise since the eighties.

More recently, Nicaragua has served as a transnational port for drug trade headed from South America to large consumer markets in both Mexico and the United States. Due to these increasing issues, the government has clamped down on drug law and sought to more consistently penalize drug use.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In Nicaragua?

Aside from alcohol and tobacco products, all recreational substances in the country are completely illegal – this includes both hemp and cannabis, which means that CBD is de facto illegal. Officials make no special discrimination between CBD, which is both non-psychoactive and non-addictive, and higher THC compounds.

Drug users who are caught with even minimal amounts of hemp or cannabis in the country could face heavy fines and jail sentences of up to thirty years. Prison conditions are somewhat harsh in the country since overcrowding is constant and prisoner resources are few. Travelers caught importing questionable substances often face greater penalties because their acts can be considered “minor drug trafficking crimes”.

All consumers should be very wary about bringing CBD into Nicaragua. Until health ministers and government officials make any legal decision regarding hemp, it is generally considered ill-advised to import CBD into the region.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a powerful compound found in strains of hemp. Researchers claim to have demonstrated that CBD oil could positively benefit many users’ mental, emotional, and physical well being with extended use. As CBD has gathered mainstream popularity, studies claim to have found that over 80 percent of those who’ve tried it found moderate to substantial relief from chronic conditions. According to many, CBD oil could benefit conditions as diverse as:

  • Some of the primary precursors to heart disease later on in life, such as vasoconstriction and high heart rate
  • Chronic pain worsened by persistent inflammation, such as arthritis, sciatica, nerve pain, and localized joint pain
  • Insomnia
  • Poor appetite and irregular body weight changes
  • Skin conditions caused by inflammation, such as eczema, psoriasis, and the signs of aging
  • Glaucoma
  • Severe nausea and cachexia, which refers to the wasting away of the body due to chronic illness
