Is CBD Oil Legal In Jordan?

by in International Law September 30, 2019

Jordan, also known as the Hashemite Kingdom, is an Arab country within Western Asia that is situated along the East Bank of the Jordan River. Bordered by Saudi Arabia and Iraq, the country boasts a short Red Sea coastline which means it has more abundant water access than most Middle Eastern countries.

With an upper middle income economy, high human development, and skilled workers, many industries are attracted to Jordan because of the region’s lack of industrial competition. As such, a large flow of refugees has wrought political and economic insecurity in the region. Additionally, law enforcement is growing increasingly worried about the movement of drugs along the border.

Is CBD Oil Allowed In Jordan?

Just two short decades ago, drug use in Jordan, including the use of cannabis and hemp, was considered completely taboo and uncommon. As a worrying rise in addiction cases has occurred, the country has been forced to confront the growing drug problem. According to the director of the anti-narcotics department, there has been a 32 percent increase in cases of addiction, possession, and smuggling in Jordan since 2017.

By far, the most commonly used substance in the region is hemp and hash. The plant grows wildly along the countryside and many have adopted it into their health regiments. In 2018, over 20,000 people were arrested for cannabis use, which was a 10 percent increase from the year previous. Drug traffickers can face up to twenty years in overcrowded, underfunded prisons depending on the amount they’ve attempted to smuggle.

Health officials state that it would be better to legalize hemp and cannabis since their consumption is more of a public health concern than a criminal offense. Many industries are waiting for countries like Jordan to ease up on hemp law so that they can start cultivating the vast swathes of hemp cash crops lining the rural regions of the country.

Experts are unsure whether or not drug use has actually increased substantially or if surveying and policing has improved within the past few years. Consumers traveling into Jordan with CBD should be very wary as they could be classed “minor drug traffickers”. It is not uncommon for tourists to face detainment and severe fines for alleged drug crimes.

What Are The Benefits Of Regular CBD Oil Use?

Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, made international news after a CNN documentary dubbed “Weed” spoke about hemp’s potential benefits positively. Since then, researchers have been clambering to discover the mental, physical, and emotional benefits that regular CBD use may have on users. Researchers believe that CBD decreases the body’s inflammatory response, which in turn can reduce the harm of a wide array of conditions. Whether it’s chronic pain or emotional stress, many state that they’ve found sustainable relief in CBD.

According to users, CBD could benefit conditions that include:

  • Poor appetite and irregular body weight fluctuations
  • Restless Leg Syndrome
  • Insomnia
  • Vasoconstriction
  • Cachexia and severe nausea
  • Chronic pain caused by inflammation, such as arthritis, sciatica, and nerve pain
