Is CBD Oil Different From THC?

There are a growing amount of countries legalizing CBD, or cannabidiol, but there is a patchwork of differing laws worldwide and it can be confusing. This is especially true when you consider how many different places around the world allow consumption of medical marijuana and in many cases, the recreational use of marijuana.

Many of the different laws regarding CBD stem from confusion between it and THC, the substance that gets you “high” when consuming marijuana. However, the two compounds couldn’t be more different.

  • Cannabis is a widespread plant that consists of two different types of plant; marijuana and hemp.
  • Hemp, or industrial hemp as it is known, contains very little THC but is usually abundant in CBD.
  • THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is found in cannabis, specifically marijuana, and is psychoactive.
  • CBD, or cannabidiol, is not psychoactive and does not produce any “high”.
  • CBD is widely reported as providing many beneficial health effects.

In most places that have laws against CBD it is because they do not distinguish a difference between CBD and THC or between hemp and marijuana. That’s why it’s important to know the laws in the location where you live. Even if you are planning on traveling to an area for a relatively short time, you should always make it a point to know the laws regarding the use of CBD oil.
