Is CBD Legal in Wyoming?

by in US Law September 26, 2019

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is surrounded by controversial laws. Each state handles CBD differently. These laws appear to be ever-changing and often confusing. These laws are often confusing because they have layers of information surrounding seemingly the same plant. However, there are some notable differences.

What is CBD? and What is THC?

CBD is a compound derived from the cannabis plant. More specifically, CBD is derived from a specific strain of cannabis known as industrial hemp or Cannabis Sativa L. Industrial hemp has Non-Detectable THC within in, this makes THC non-psychoactive, meaning it does not create a “high” sensation.

THC, on the other hand, is a compound derived from cannabis. This is what is commonly found in the marijuana plant. THC is the compound responsible for creating the euphoric effect often associated with cannabis.

Furthermore, studies have shown that CBD has been a benefit in the treatment of various health conditions. These conditions are often associated with chronic inflammation and pain. Some of these conditions include the following:

  • Back Pain
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Arthritis and Joint Pain
  • Insomnia
  • Inflammatory Conditions
  • Rashes and Skin Disorders
  • Muscular Sclerosis

Wyoming Law and CBD

The Farm Bill of 2014 legalized the cultivation of industrial hemp in all 50 states. In 2018, President Donald Trump expanded the Farm Bill. This expansion removed industrial hemp from the controlled substances list.

During July of 2015, the state of Wyoming passed House Bill 32. This bill allowed Wyoming to become the 16th state to legalize hemp-derived CBD oil. The bill won a 53-7 vote.

During the approval process for House Bill 32, Senator Charlie Scott asked if anyone was in opposition of the bill, not a single person rose to contest.

As it stands today, hemp-derived CBD products are federally legal for import, purchase and consumption.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that many people who suffer from chronic pain and inflammation have reported that after using hemp-derived CBD products their symptoms have improved. With the acceptance of the industrial hemp plant, those who suffer from these conditions are granted an alternative method for treating their condition.

Addiction can be a real fear for those who are consistently using prescription opioids. Studies have shown that CBD products can offer people treatment without fear of addiction or adverse side effects.

The laws surrounding CBD products can vary significantly per state. Those who are interested in CBD products should remain up to date on the laws that surround them.

CBD products can be purchased in the state of Wyoming through local retail shops and online.
