Rhode Island And CBD Oil

Since 2016, residents of Rhode Island have had the benefit of medical access to high THC strains of cannabidiol, better known as CBD. For anyone with a doctor’s recommendation suffering from a painful condition, these policies were progressive for the time period and demonstrate the state’s friendly rules concerning CBD.

The Farm Bill of 2018 further spurred the state’s legislature into action, calling for a more streamlined approach to legalizing therapeutic substances.

Is CBD Allowed In Rhode Island?

CBD hemp oil has been legal in Rhode Island ever since the first iteration of the Farm Bill in 2014. However, local production hadn’t started ramping up until the more liberal 2018 Farm Bill which provided growers a legal route towards commercializing hemp.

Since 2014, there has been no specific regulation in Rhode Island which contradicts the federal stance or definition of hemp and its derivatives. Both high THC and hemp derived CBD are legal for general consumer purchase in the state.

Legal hemp is defined as any natural plant with more than ten percent cannabinoid concentration and strictly no more than 0.3 percent THC content. Growers are certified through the state’s Department of Agriculture and must be annually licensed.

Many consumers prefer to purchase their CBD products online rather than at brick-and-mortar locations. While high quality hemp extracts are available in Rhode Island for purchase, a wider range of products are available online. Additionally, online sellers currently adhere to more strict regulation concerning labeling, crop testing, and third party materials testing than the state of Rhode Island.

So far, there have been no reports of the state stopping shipments from online marketplaces.

Some health experts have expressed suspicion towards the state’s lack of policy, since malicious vendors who cut their product or improperly label and more likely to slip through the cracks. It’s important that all consumers remain cognizant of the risks of purchasing from vendors that do not openly publish the results of third party tests, or from those who advertise an exceedingly cheap product with too high a concentration of CBD to be accurate.

What Are The Benefits Of CBD In Rhode Island?

Well sourced, high quality CBD has been investigated for a number of mental and physical health benefits. Over eighty percent of those who’ve tried CBD just once reported a moderate to substantial reduction in painful symptoms, seeing improvement in:

  • Decreased anxiety and depression
  • Sustainable and non addictive pain relief
  • Reduced inflammation and stress oxidation
  • Relief from persistent skin conditions, like psoriasis, eczema, and the signs of aging
