Is CBD Legal in Belarus?

Large CBD Oil and Hemp Legalization Movement in Belarus

There seems to be a desire among some people in Belarus to legalize hemp, cannabis, and products such as marijuana, however at this time CBD is not legal. Throughout much of the European Union (EU), legislation is already taking historical turns as hemp and hemp extract known as CBD are becoming legal and widely available. Medical marijuana is also available in some parts of the EU.

But Belarus has yet to join the EU, and with its government structure remaining autocratic, there’s little chance Belarus will ever join the EU. Drug laws in the country are strict. Penalties for drug use are leftover from the Soviet regime. There are a lot of obstacles to overcome before Belarus would ever embrace cannabis or CBD oil.

Anti-marijuana Propaganda

Belarus was part of the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and at that time anti-marijuana propaganda abounded in the USSR. Many of these beliefs continue to influence the government to this day. There is a major war on drugs in Belarus, and it does not seem likely this will change any time soon. There seems to be no effort to distinguish between hemp and marijuana or CBD and its psychoactive cousin, THC. Belarus is led by Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko, who continues to push anti-drug policies.

Hemp Throughout the EU

Belarus is close to the EU, which is made up of many thriving countries that are becoming more relaxed on their views of hemp CBD or cannabidiol. The same anti-marijuana propaganda that has convinced politicians in Belarus to continue criminalizing hemp and substances like CBD was also prevalent throughout the rest of the world, but many people have started to realize the benefits of CBD. There is a fundamental misunderstanding of what some of the differences are between CBD and THC.

  • Cannabis is a plant and there are two major types of cannabis; hemp and marijuana.
  • Marijuana contains THC, the psychoactive compound that provides the “high” people get from consuming marijuana products.
  • THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol is found in marijuana but is not detectable in industrial hemp.
  • CBD from industrial hemp does not provide a “high” and contains little to no THC.
  • CBD will not make someone test positive on a drug test.
  • Hemp also provides many other products such as material for durable clothing, food, oil, etc.

CBD May Have Health Benefits

There is some evidence that CBD may be good for you. Anecdotal reports show that CBD can relieve stress, reduce pain and inflammation, help treat epilepsy, and elevate mood. This could be good news for many people living with certain ailments. There are more and more reports from people who claim to have received numerous benefits from consuming CBD for reduction of anxiety, help with depression; the list goes on and on.

The Future of Belarus

The hope is that the government of Belarus will change and allow the people to decide what is good for them. There is already a push for more freedom. Time will tell whether or not Belarusians will get what they desire.
