Is CBD a Magic Antidote to All My Problems?

If you’ve seen CBD around, you’ve likely heard of all the unique and powerful properties that the compound holds. It’s no secret: researchers have been claiming they can link regular CBD consumption to positive impacts on users’ mental, physical, and emotional health for over a decade. You may be wondering if CBD is right for you, or you may hope that it can cure everything from depression to chronic pain.

First off, it’s important to state that CBD is not a panacea or cure-all. Often, curious users will try it once and write it off as something more akin to a sleep supplement. Others hope that it will immediately and completely rid them of their painful health conditions. Let’s be clear: CBD isn’t some fast-acting prescription drug that zaps away any and all symptoms.

That said, many have found success by incorporating a regular CBD routine into their pre-existing regimen. Many describe that CBD almost instantaneously works on poor mood and anxiety, dampening the worst lows of mental health conditions and mood disorders.

For chronic pain conditions, such as arthritis and nerve pain, CBD can be much slower acting; many state that it takes over a week of consistent use before they notice improvements in chronic pain. That doesn’t mean it’s not working; rather, CBD takes time to reduce the harmful inflammation behind most pain disorders.

How Does CBD Work?

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, functions by interacting with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS refers to a set of receptors in virtually every area of the body, including the immune system, brain, peripheral nervous system, spinal cord, and digestive system.

CBD binds to receptors, allegedly promoting the homeostasis that regulates functions like sleep, mood, appetite, digestion, and physical or mental pain. The true benefit of CBD is that it is non-psychoactive: users don’t notice an immediate effect and many effects can occur so gradually as to fade from notice.

The treatment is gentle enough to be used in any environment, whether work or social settings, in order to sustainably support the aspects of positive health.

Researchers refer to this effect as the “positive spiral”. First, they claim that CBD reduces the suffering caused by mood conditions and anxiety, reducing stress oxidation and inflammation. This reduction in inflammation allegedly lifts the worst sensations associated with pain conditions like arthritis. The decrease in inflammation and resultant lack of pain than lifts more of the depressive and cognitive symptoms, which in turn decreases chronic pain. Over and over, CBD gradually lifts health conditions by creating a positive feedback loop.

In short, CBD is not a magic antidote to each and every one of your problems. However, it is possible that introducing CBD to your health regimen could help you lead a more pain free, positive lifestyle over periods of sustained use.
