International CBD law
The global landscape for cannabidiol, or CBD, is confusing to say the least. Each country seems to have its own ideas of how to handle CBD, or, conflates CBD with marijuana, treating the substance accordingly. Many countries allow CBD, many others outlaw and demonize it, while the status of CBD oil in come countries is hard to define as the government in those countries have yet to make any decisions regarding it.
What Is CBD?
But first let’s explore exactly what CBD oil is and why it is getting so much attention these days. First off, CBD is a cannabinoid that is found in all forms of cannabis. Both marijuana and hemp contain CBD but it’s generally found in greater amounts in industrial hemp. Currently CBD is being used by people to relieve pain and inflammation, treat seizures, help reduce anxiety and depression and a whole host of other common health problems human beings face.
People also claim it helps them with conditions as diverse as skin blemishes to cancer and heart disease. Because of the massive amount of alleged benefits, CBD has received an unbelievable amount of positive buzz and has taken the world by storm.
However, just because CBD comes from cannabis does not mean it has to contain THC (THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol is the compound that produces the intoxicating effects of marijuana). In fact, most countries that have legalized CBD requires that it comes from hemp and contains little to no THC. In the United States the allowable level of THC is 0.3% and in the European Union it is 0.2%. Other countries have their own standards but in general those levels are common requirements where CBD oil is legal.
