I climbed Mt. Nyorai-ga-dake from the west of Hachiman-Bora-Iriguchi in Gifu City on Sunday, May 22, 2022. I descended from the trail that leads to Gifu Prefectural Road 176, Ajiki-Awano line.
GPS logs were recorded using the smartphone sensor logging application phyphox (Physical Phone Experiments), following the procedure described here.
When taking pictures with a smartphone, the GPS logging is paused and then resumed.
On the way up the mountain, there were two places where I noticed horseflies and bees. These two places had no trees and were about 4 square meters in size. I could hear a sound similar to the buzzing of horseflies and bees’ wings coming from the high voltage lines running through the mountain pylons. It was as if horseflies and bees were buzzing their wings in resonance with the sound of the high voltage lines.
Although it is a good and comfortable season, I felt that it might be better to take insect repellent spray when climbing.
There was a trail by Hachiman Shrine at the back of Hachiman-Bora-Danchi. However, the trail had fallen trees. I gave up climbing the trail and turned back.
There was another trail to Mt. Nyorai-ga-dake from the west of Hachiman-Bora-Iriguchi. It was well maintained, easy to climb, and had beautiful scenery. I climbed in the morning and passed a person on the way up. I was concerned about horseflies and bees, but I think it is a relatively safe trail to climb.
The trail leading to Gifu Prefectural Road 176, Ajiki-Awano line was a bit dangerous at some points if we stepped off the trail.
