CBD for Restless Leg Syndrome
CBD Popularity On The Rise
If you live in a country where CBD is legal, you’ve almost certainly seen it: The compound is everywhere. The reason for this is simple: Millions of users have found that CBD has given them relief from a slew of physical and emotional problems, and some scientific evidence has backed up this notion.
Thanks to a changing legal scene which has seen CBD legalized in many countries, there has been a big uptick CBD research. More is unquestionably needed, but there are a variety of illnesses and disorders which may be assisted by CBD. One example seems to be Restless Leg Syndrome.
What CBD Seems To Do For Restless Leg Syndrome
Restless Leg Syndrome is a disorder which causes your legs to move or twitch in an uncontrollable fashion. It can be very uncomfortable and painful for those who suffer. Furthermore, symptoms get worse in the evening, thus interfering with getting a good night’s sleep. The best course of therapy seems to be medication.
However, there is some evidence which shows that CBD may be helpful at treating Restless Leg Syndrome. For example, in a 2016 study six patients were given medical-strength CBD to deal with RLS, and five noted that their symptoms completely disappeared.
Other Doctors have chimed in, noting that it is possible that CBD helps Restless Leg Syndrome, but the effects may be limited. According to Dr. Allan Frankel, CBD may have minimal impacts on relieving the worst symptoms of Restless Leg Syndrome, noting that three of his patients – out of five – found relief from their Restless Leg Syndrome thanks to CBD. However, Dr. Frankel noted that hemp-manufactured CBD had “minimal effects,” and that whole plant CBD – with naturally occurring flavonoids, terpenes and cannabinoids, would be much more effective at dealing with these symptoms.
Additionally, there seems to be some evidence to suggest that marijuana or medical-grade marijuana can help to address Restless Leg Syndrome by alleviating its symptoms. If this is the case, it would make sense that CBD can also help with Restless Leg Syndrome, as marijuana and CBD do share chemical similarities, and both come from the cannabis plant.
Other Alleged Benefits Of CBD
It has also been suggested – with some studies backing up the claim – that CBD and marijuana can assist in sleep. As such, it is possible that CBD helps RLS by assisting its sufferers in falling asleep. As a result of the improved sleep, they notice the symptoms less.
As always when it comes to CBD, more study is needed, and you should never take CBD without first asking for the advice of a knowledgeable medical professional. However, it certainly seems possible that CBD can be beneficial for those who suffer from Restless Leg Syndrome.
